Its so easy to sew for girls, isn't it? Those cute little dresses and skirts that take no time at all to whip up, all those beautiful fabrics to work with... Pesonally I think that making clothes for boys is harder because (for me) there is a higher level of technical difficulty in making shirts and shorts and fabric choices are comparatively limited. As the mother of a boy I always find myself retreating to the department stores to buy pants and tops, and I try to buy the plainest I can because I hate commercialised rubbish and dumb slogans.
In my creative space I am starting on sewing some summer clothes for my boy, and trying and make it look really good, not too "made by Mum".
I have a pants/shorts pattern and some printed cotton drill.
And some plain t-shirts, ready for an applique or two.
...plus I have to make a super-hero costume for next weekend - more on that next week.

I am totally with you! Making boys clothes is a lot more difficult - good luck with yours. That fabric is so cool :) Kx
ReplyDeleteI'm exactly with you too- I usually just make trackies, but there doesn't seem much point when I found a $2 pair at Kmart! Shorts in cure fabrics are my most exciting achievement, and the applique t-shirt is set to become my summer mainstay.
ReplyDeleteWhoops, that was 'Cute' fabrics- he's not into the Cure just yet! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric you have there for his shorts! Great idea to applique the t's too...
ReplyDeleteI have that same shorts pattern for my nephews.
ReplyDeleteShorts are definitely way more time consuming than skirts, and the fabric choices are quite abysmal!
i agree, so much easier to make things for a girl. there are not many nice patterns and fabrics available for boys... a bit sad. hopefully, someone will come up with something really soon :)
ReplyDeleteforgot to mention, looking forward to the finished items. :)
ReplyDeleteoh I agree with the tops but the shorts and trousers are pretty easy. I always just cut a pattern off a pair that he likes and go from there. but just elastic waist - I guess you could be aiming for way posher than my boys get! I posted a pair of mine the other day that I made for him from an old curtain!
ReplyDeleteenjoy!
Finding decent fabric is half the battle, & I agree that it is harder to make for boys at times. Looking forward to seeing your boy gear!
ReplyDeleteI find it hard enough finding any boy-oriented fabric for toys, I usually end up with stripes, spots or checks... can't imagine making clothes & I hate all the silly slogans and phrases on the bought stuff too! Goodluck with the sewing! :)
ReplyDeleteA friend uses that pattern all the time for her boys. The shorts turn out great! Cant wait to see the result!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I totally agree, too. I've made dresses and skirts and appliqued a shirt for my daughter. Nothing for my son. :)
